Director of Engineering:

Summary of Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance department and ensure all standards are followed
  • Oversee ongoing maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance in the Resort with a focus to improve efficiency, profitability and service levels
  • Co-ordinate renovation and capital projects, managing outside contractors as required
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, monitor of the Budget on a monthly basis; complete P&L responsibility for the department and assist in the preparation of the capital plan
  • Establish and fine tune a complete preventive maintenance program for Guest Rooms and equipment. Incorporation of the program into a facilities management software package, which tracks the work order system and scheduled maintenance needs
  • Follow purchasing procedures for all inventory needs and maintain the required physical inventory pursuant to the maintenance program and unanticipated emergencies
  • Ensure the Resort complies with all government regulations pertaining to building code requirements, health, fire and life safety programs
  • Review ongoing service contracts ensuring superior performance and competitive pricing
  • Monitoring energy and water management programs to ensure cost effective use of utilities
  • Balance operational, administrative and Members/Guest needs
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures
  • Follow all safety policies

Required Certifications: Encourage OSHA Hazard Communication Standard training and certification. • Bachelor's degree; preferably in Applied Engineering or equivalent. • Minimum 5 years experience as an Engineering Manager in a full-service resort including numerous amenities. • Prior experience with UKG Pro. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Must have the physical strength, stamina and agility to perform the assigned duties. • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures. • Report work related accidents, or other injuries immediately upon occurrence to manager/supervisor. • Report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions to manager. • Requires problem solving abilities. • Maintain a clean, safe and environmentally responsible work environment. • Must be able to interact with co-workers and have a sense of TEAM. • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the application of sanitation procedures.

Work Performance: Supervise the Maintenance Engineering staff, one Assistant Engineer and one Lead Engineer.

Records: Shall maintain Fire and Safety Reports, Maintenance Reports, Utility Consumption and Engineering Reports and maintains Monthly Budget Report.

Planning and Purchasing: Plans and schedules equipment repair and orders materials and tools needed for such repairs. All repairs are scheduled for the safest and shortest shutdown of all equipment and /or area as possible.

Functions: As Fire Marshall, Safety Representative and oversees training of all assigned employees.

Consult with structural, electrical and mechanical contractors pertaining to major repairs and the installation of new equipment for bidding designs and budget estimates.

Responsibility and Authority:

  • a) Employee Relations- Responsible for all phases of repair and maintenance and to convey the company policy and procedure to all employees in the department. The authority to hire the best possible employees available and to assign duties to the person most qualified to do the job at hand.
  • b) Materials and Products: Authority to purchase replacement or repair parts and materials to maintain the building and equipment.
  • c) Equipment: Make recommendations for the most efficient and economical operation of this department as well as recommendations for installations of worn out or out-model equipment; or for the installation of new equipment.
  • d) Financial: To insure the lowest possible budget while maintaining policy and service.
  • e) Business Contacts: Electrical and Mechanical Contractors, General Contractors, Building Inspectors and the Fire Marshall along with all Department Manager through-out the hotel.

Physical Requirements;

Ability to lift 75 lbs.

Job requires a great deal of walking, climbing on ladders and bending.

Good fine motor skills for the use of power tools and equipment.
